Recycling Resources

When you are ready to clear the clutter and would like your once-loved items to go to a good home, here are Toronto and area shelters that are city funded, operated and monitored.

Furniture Recycling Services - 416-446-1620

Provides pick up service for clothing, and small appliances and then distributes the items to shelters and hostels in need. Pick up boundaries are Burlington to the west, Whitby to the east and Brampton and Markham to the north.

Furniture Bank - 416-934-1229

Provides pick up service in Toronto for furniture and household items to help set up an apartment. These donations are distributed to women starting over.

Hope Furniture - 416-438-2915

Provides pick up service in Scarborough for furniture, clothing and household items. Donated items are resold in store and profits go to Canadian Feed the Children.

Red Door Shelters - 416-750-3800

Has three locations, *one of which takes all items with the exception of furniture anytime day or night, as long as you call ahead.

This great organization collects "gently used" dresses for girls that can't afford dresses for the prom. They also like donations of new shoes, makeup and gift certificates for hair and makeup places.

Family Abuse Crisis Exchange - (416) 225-8171 www.face1.org

They collect clothes in good condition and supply them to women re-entering the job market, usually women who have come from abusive or difficult situations and are trying to get back on their feet.
